Will PrenticeAt the middle of July Will Prentice, the musicologist from British Library National Sound Archive visited Azerbaijan. In the Archive, he became aware of some old discs, made by the Gramophone Company in the Caucasus and Central Asia, which seemed very interesting. Among the collection in the National Sound Archive are two recordings by Jabbar Karyagdy. Will came to Azerbaijan to research the musical and social contexts. He was trying to understand the environment in which the recordings were made, and also, to gauge their significance today.
During his stay Mr. Prentice visited Azerbaijan State Archive of Sound Records, State Museum of Music Culture, U.Hajibeyov's memorial house and made provisions for future cooperation. Also, he had been very satisfying to speak to people such as Dr. Tariel Mamedov, who not only appreciate Karyagdy's art, but also are working to preserve it for the future.
